Early Life and Education

Christopher Allen Lloyd was born on October 22, 1938, in Stamford, Connecticut. His mother, Ruth, was a singer, and his father, Samuel R. Lloyd, was an attorney. Christopher attended Fessenden School in Newton, Massachusetts, and spent his childhood and adolescence in the Connecticut towns of New Canaan and Westport, graduating from Staples High School in 1958.

Acting Beginnings

Lloyd began his acting career at the age of 14, honing his skills with a summer stock company. At 19, he attended acting classes in New York City at the Neighborhood Playhouse under the tutelage of Sanford Meisner. He went on to perform in numerous Broadway productions, including "Happy End," "A Midsummer Night's Dream," and "Macbeth."

Film and Television Career

Lloyd's breakout role came in the 1975 film "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" as a psychiatric patient. However, he gained fame for his memorable performances as Reverend Jim Ignatowski in the sitcom "Taxi" and the eccentric Dr. Emmett Brown in the "Back to the Future" trilogy. He also appeared in "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" as Commander Kruge and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" as Judge Doom.

Other Notable Roles

Lloyd has played a wide range of characters throughout his career, including the enigmatic Professor Dimple in "Road to Avonlea," the flamboyant Zoltan in "Radioland Murders," and the creepy Uncle Fester in "The Addams Family." His distinctive voice has also been used extensively for voice roles in animated films and television shows, such as Hacker in "Cyberchase."
