One look at her and you won’t be able to tell that she is not an Indian.

But Carlyta Mouhini — a singer much in demand in Bollywood — is actually of Brazilian origin with a Latino descent. And you realise that when she starts talking with a thick Latino accent.

“(Actor) Katrina Kaif has shown the world that you can make it in Bollywood even if you don’t know the language. There’s always something that you can learn and learning the language comes very easily to me,” says Carlyta who broke into Bollywood with the song Dilli Ki Sardi.

After that she sang one hit song after the other and the audience could barely recognise that this is coming from a non Indian.

“There is a huge musical treasure in India and the more I try to delve into it, I find that the treasure has no end. That is why I have found my true calling in Indian music,” says Carlyta, who also travels to Brazil and Madrid as she is a Latin singer as well.

She doesn’t mind the fact that people have not come to recognise her as they have other singers in the industry. “I am more concerned with my work. I also got an award last year (IIFA) for the best playback singer. So there are people who recognise my work and I am thankful to God for that,” she adds.

Quiz Carlyta about her relationship status and she admits that she is seeing somebody even though marriage is not on the cards right now.

“I am seeing somebody. He is half-Peruvian and half-Spanish and he is very handsome. Though he has rich tastes in music he is not a singer,” adds Carlyta, who had spent a few years in Kolkata too as a school teacher and DJ at a popular nightclub.
